Clothing college is the college with the most distinctive characteristics and extensive social influence in Zhejiang University of technology. It is one of the earliest clothing higher education institutions in China. The Department of clothing was established in 1985, the clothing branch was established in 1993, renamed the College of clothing and art design in 1999 and the College of clothing in 2004. The school founded silk art and variety design in 1979, fashion design in 1982, fashion engineering in 1988 and fashion performance in 1994.

The College of fashion now offers clothing design and engineering, clothing and clothing design Product design (Textile Art Design), performance (Fashion Show Art), etc. fashion design and engineering, art design (fashion and dress design, product design) are the national characteristic majors of the Ministry of education and the advantageous majors of colleges and universities in Zhejiang Province during the 12th Five Year Plan. Fashion design and Engineering, fashion and dress design are the "13th five year plan" of colleges and universities in Zhejiang Province Advantage specialty. Fashion design and engineering, fashion and fashion design were selected as the first batch of national first-class undergraduate professional construction sites in 2019, product design (Textile Art Design) was selected as a national first-class undergraduate professional construction site in 2020. The college has a national experimental teaching demonstration center for clothing, a national virtual simulation experimental teaching center for clothing design, and a national engineering practice education center for clothing; it has 2 national first-class courses, 2 national high-quality courses, 2 national high-quality resource sharing courses, and 1 national high-quality video open course.

At present, the college has one doctoral program and one master program in the secondary discipline of fashion design and engineering, three master programs in the primary discipline of design, art and art theory, one master of art and two master of engineering degree authorization programs. Fashion design and engineering is the most important first-class discipline in Zhejiang Province, and design is the key discipline in Zhejiang Province. The disciplines of the college are selected as class a first-class disciplines in Zhejiang Province, which are subordinate to the advantageous and characteristic disciplines of key universities in Zhejiang Province. In 2019, the college won the first batch of Zhejiang fashion talent training industry education integration demonstration bases.

The college currently has 106 teaching staff, including nearly 50 teachers with senior titles, returned teachers from foreign studies, and winners of "Zhejiang famous teachers", "Zhejiang new century 151 talent project", "Zhejiang middle-aged and young discipline leaders" and "China's top ten fashion designers". There are more than 1600 undergraduates, masters and doctoral students and foreign students. The college has established close exchanges and cooperation with Cornell University in the United States, London Fashion Institute in the United Kingdom, Japan Institute of culture and clothing, University of North Texas in the United States, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, sugano fashion University in Japan, European Design Institute in Italy, Shuiyuan women's University in Korea, Fu Jen University in Taiwan and other institutions, with distinctive international school running characteristics.
