The College of Life Sciences and medicine, ZSTU was founded in March, 2004, based on the principle of offering talented individuals a high-quality support for their studies. The college boasts a group of domestic and foreign scholars and academics well known in the field of Life Sciences, and has very strong capabilities in both students’ cultivation and scientific research.
The college now has 118 faculty and staff members, 31 professors, 33 associate professors, 8 Ph.D. supervisor, 68 postgraduate supervisor, 38 mid-level professors，1 accepted to the National Talent Intelligence program, 1 accepted to the Ministry of Education’s Trans-Century Talent Program, 1 is the committee of the course of Biology and Medicine which belong to Ministry of Education, 1 accepted to the Award Program of Chang-jiang Scholar, 1 awarded to the CAS 100 Talent Program, 1 talent team of Zhejiang Province, 2 recognized as a Qian-jiang Scholar, 13 selected to the Zhejiang 151 Talent Program, 3 special experts of Zhejiang Province, 1 got the outstanding award of Zhejiang Province, 2 excellent teachers of Zhejiang, 1 outstanding expert of Jiangsu and 5 Zhejiang’s academic leader. In addition, 25 prestigious Chinese and foreign scholars from 11 different countries work in the college as part-time & visiting professors.
Aiming at cultivating talented students with both outstanding scientific capabilities and extraordinary practical skills, the college has one graduate major as Biology and have three undergraduate majors as Biotechnology, Bio-pharmaceutical and Marine Resource Development which has been newly founded from the year 2016. The college provides increasingly improved experimental infrastructure (more than 80 billion yuan) and a 6500 square meter laboratory center, which is further divided into labs for teaching and research on botany, microorganisms, biochemistry, genetic engineering and zoology.
The college has been earnestly practicing the University motto of “Virtue, Vision, Erudition and Action” and the University doctrine of “Seek Truth, Cherish Honesty”. With a higher requirements on the international development, the college has recently more concentrated on international programs’ promotion and foreign students’ cultivation. With international students from various countries as Bangladesh, Tanzania, Liberia, Congo(Kingshasa) and Egypt, the college at present hosts a undergraduate major of biotechnology with English taught and all the postgraduate programs, welcome talented international students with biological background and innovative abilities.
