The School of Art and Design now has five departments including Industrial Design Department, Visual Communication Design Department, Digital Media Arts Department, Fine Arts Department and Environmental Design Department. Product Design and Industrial Design in Industrial Design Department are two national first-class disciplines, and Environmental Design is the provincial first-class discipline. The school has first-level doctorate sites in design and three first-level master's degrees in Design, Art Theory, and Fine Arts, professional degree fields (Master of Arts in Art Design, Master of Arts in Fine Arts, and Master of Industrial Design in engineering field), as well as a part-time master's degree (Master of Fine Arts in art design field). The discipline of Design, the top 5% in the 2021 China Soft Science Best Subject Rankings, ranks fourth of all.

The school has a team of teachers with rich teaching experience, strong scientific research ability, and high academic level. There are 164 faculty members, including 12 professors and 49 associate professors. Among them, there are 1 leading talent in philosophy and social sciences of the national "Ten Thousand Talents Program", 1 national candidate for the New Century Talents Project, 1 cultural master of the the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the CPC and 4 batches of talents, 1 professor enjoying the special government allowance of the State Council, and 1 first-class expert of Zhejiang Province. The school has various research platforms, including the key research base of Zhejiang Provincial Philosophy and Social Sciences Association, the key research base of Department of Culture of Zhejiang Province and the Creative Industry Development Research Center of ZSTU, as well as 14 innovative design studios.

Committed to cultivating innovative and creative art design professionals with an international vision, the school is the secretariat member holding Industrial Design Competition of Zhejiang Province. With the public video class of national quality, it has 2 second prizes for national teaching achievements. The teachers and students have won many international and domestic awards such as Red Dot, IF, IDEA, and Red Star. The students won the gold award of the “Challenge Cup” which is a entrepreneurship competition for national college students, the first prize of Industrial Design Competition for college students in Zhejiang Province, and the gold award of Competition of Village Revitalization and Creativity for college students in Zhejiang Province. The school also boasts its hundreds of awards of national and provincial level, and its employment rate and entrepreneurship rate steadily rank top in the university.
