Faculty and Students from University of Manchester Visiting ZSTU

The short-term international student exchange program jointly initiated by School of Materials and Textiles of ZSTU and School of Materials at University of Manchester--“The Journey into Chinese Silk Culture and Textiles Industry” was commenced recently.

The delegation comprised of 16 members (2 teachers, 14 students) from University of Manchester covers textiles engineering, textiles management, and textiles marketing majors.

The delegation from the University of Manchester is to, within 2 weeks, through colorful events, appreciate the elegant demeanor of Chinese silk and textiles. The events cover attending lectures concerning Chinese silk culture and industry, silk product design, delivered by the teachers from ZSTU, reports concerning development of Chinese and Zhejiang Province’s chemical fiber, textiles, dyeing and finishing, fashion and other industries, field trips to silk reeling, weaving, dyeing and fashion enterprises as well as textiles market and trade centers, in Hangzhou, Shaoxing, Huzhou, Suzhou, Shanghai, etc, visiting the university history exhibition room and exhibition hall of silk products of ZSTU, China Silk Museum, Dujinsheng Brocade Museum, etc, and finally, they are to exchange ideas concerning textiles, fashion brand planning, trade, etc, with teachers and students from ZSTU School of Materials and Textiles.

This exchange program aims to make known the long history , course of development and present situation of Chinese silk and textiles, make known the unmatched role Chinese advanced weaving technologies and Chinese textiles play in the global textiles industry, through such substantial exchange and cooperation activities, the organizers hope to further enhance the University’s reputation internationally, to speed the construction of international exchange programs, and finally to realize the internationalization of talent cultivation.
