ZSTU International students take part in “China Exploration -- International Students Sunshine Athletic and Cultural Tour in China” tryout of Zhejiang Division

Recently the tryout of“China Exploration-International Students Sunshine Athletic and Cultural Tour in China” in Zhejiang division was held in Zhejiang University of Technology. Jiang Shengxiang, deputy Secretary of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee, deputy director-general of Zhejiang Educational Department was present at the opening ceremony. “China Exploration-- International Students Sunshine Athletic and Cultural Tour in China” was launched by the Ministry of Education whose aim is to showcase the spiritual outlook and enterprising spirit of the international students, attract more int’l students to China, and promote the soft power and influence of Chinese culture. Altogether 111 foreign students and 27 Chinese students of 16 delegations from colleges and universities in Zhejiang province attended the tryout of Zhejiang division. The delegation of ZSTU, which ranked the 6th in team total score, was composed of 8 international students and 2 Chinese students.

ZSTU school leaders, as well as the leaders of International Students Office, Department of Physical Education, and School of Culture and Communication attached great importance to this tryout. Concerned units combined closely and made painstaking preparation for this event. The Department of Physical Education sent excellent coaches to instruct the students in their training and provided supportive help in selection of sportswear and use of gymnasiums. Teachers from School of Culture and Communication gave targeted lessons to the international students who attended the Chinese culture quiz show. The teachers and students who participated in the competition overcame various difficulties and prepared for more than a month, when they were supposed to be enjoying their winter vacation. The delegation of ZSTU consisted of students from China, Democratic Republic of the Congo (COD), Laos, Syria, the United States, and Rwanda. The delegation eventually won the 6th place among 16 teams, after four days of harsh competition with other delegations from the colleges and universities in Zhejiang such as Zhejiang University, Zhejiang University of Technology, Zhejiang University of Science and Technology, and Zhejiang Normal University. This competition covered 6 events, namely national traditional events, movement shape show, campus orienteering, Chinese culture quiz show, three to three basketball race, and talent show. ZSTU students Gideon Ethaniel Blatt(whose Chinese name is Wang Guanjun) from American and Jiang Jiacheng from China got the 4th prize respectively in the campus orienteering. It is worth mentioning that during the campus orienteering, the ZSTU contestants displayed great persevering and tenacious spirit and overcame various difficulties, before they finally won the satisfying 4th prize in total score.

In recent years international students’ education has undergone rapid growth. Along with ZSTU’s efforts taken on the improvement of the education quality toward int’l students, the school gives high priority to the extracurricular cultural activities and has initiated colorful cultural and athletic activities. Meanwhile, ZSTU also encourages int’l students to take active part in various activities launched by concerned departments of government, provides them with diversified channels to know Chinese culture and society. International students are given a broad stage to display their talents, develop their capacity, and promote exchanges between different cultures.
