Zhejiang Sci-Tech University (ZSTU) is a hundred-year-old institution that encourages every student to go beyond limits and expectations. I have studied and worked at ZSTU for nearly 40 years. Now, I’m pleased to introduce to you the university that honors the heritage while embracing innovation in an ever-changing world.

ZSTU was founded in 1897 as Sericulture Academy, which was one of the earliest new-learning educational institutions ever founded in China. After over 120 years of development and accumulation, ZSTU grows into a provincial key university focusing on engineering, with distinct characteristics and advantages as well as the coordinated development of the various disciplines of Sciences, Engineering, Arts, Economics, Management, Law, Fine Art, Education, etc. At the moment, ZSTU boasts a comprehensive talent training system, with 6 first-level disciplines qualified to confer doctoral degree, 25 first-level disciplines qualified to award master’s degree, and 58 bachelor programs. The disciplines of Material Sciences, Chemistry and Engineering are listed among the global top 5‰ by ESI. ZSTU has always been committed to producing graduates with knowledge, innovative ideas and entrepreneurship, carrying out scientific researches on issues concerning academic and industrial development. As a result, a number of remarkable research achievements have been made, exerting long-term impact on the society.

ZSTU attaches great importance to the internationalization of education, and is one of the earliest Chinese schools (in the days of Sericulture Academy) to send students abroad. Entering the new century, the university has significantly accelerated the pace of internationalization, and has established partnership with more than 150 educational and scientific research institutions in over 45 countries and regions. Now, there are more than 1,000 international students from more than 80 countries and regions in the world studying at ZSTU. We are looking forward to joining hands with peers and experts from all over the world to create a better future in the pursuit of academic excellence and the progress of science, technology and human civilization, through a broader range of cooperation and exchange activities at higher levels.
